| Nestled on the tip of a 5,000 acre nature and wildlife reserve, Amanyara provides supreme isolation and comfort in an oceanfront setting that includes low rocky headlands and a sweeping white sand beach. Sitting at one with its environment, Amanyara has many moods - spacious and dramatic yet intimate with cosy areas to retreat to. All 40 timber shingled pavilions are identical in layout and design. Pavilions are nestled in the vegetation; Pond Pavilions are sited on the edge of tranquil ponds, with a timber sundeck extending over the edge of the water while Ocean Pavilions are located along the oceanfront, elevated approximately 15-20 feet above the waterline, with pathways leading to the rock formations above the sea. The Restaurant provides a choice of dining settings. The interior of the room is divided into two areas, the first open to the breeze and the second air-conditioned. The open setting steps down onto a terrace with outdoor seating scattered beneath two large trees. Both areas have sweeping views to the beach and beyond to the ocean. The cuisine on offer provides a selection of Asian and Mediterranean fare with an emphasis on local seafood. Beyond the Restaurant, and leading to the swimming pool, is the Bar. It includes a central service bar with its unique feature being the number of oversized lounging day beds on the perimeter of the bar. Leading from the bar is a spacious terrace that provides informal dining seating and more large lounging beds. | Hotel Bora Bora sits on the edge of a turquoise lagoon nestled beneath the lush green volcanic peaks of Mount Otemanu. The resort creates a charming sight as you approach by speedboat, the friendly staff ready to greet you on the pier with cold towels and champagne, a welcoming and luxurious start to your stay. This grande dame of Tahiti has long entranced visitors with its romantic ambience. The best known of the island’s hotels, it has even attracted a permanent clientele – several celebrities always return to their preferred bungalow. The Polynesian-style thatched bungalows and spacious ‘farés’ (the Tahitian word for home) are extremely private, set either in tropical gardens, on one of the three white sand beaches, or on stilts out in the water. Over-Water Bungalows perch over a coral reef, with steps leading straight into the sea, while the superb Premium Beach Farés have uninterrupted ocean views. All rooms are elegantly furnished in neutral tones, with rattan and bamboo furniture and oak floors. Petals strewn on the four poster beds provide a tropical welcome on your first night. While it’s tempting just to laze in a hammock, there are plenty of activities and excursions to be enjoyed. Go scuba diving, deep-sea fishing or see the marine life from a glass-bottomed boat and then explore the island on horseback or by Jeep or bicycle. The main village of Vaitape and other island sights lie within easy reach. In the evenings, enjoy dinner overlooking the
lagoon in one of the hotel’s restaurants. Wednesday nights bring
a special beach barbecue and Polynesian dance show, while on Fridays;
guests are entertained by the intriguingly named ‘Dance of the
Mamas’.
