Pacific Highway 1 is, without doubt, one of our most popular America family holidays constantly in demand year after year. The itinerary starts in San Francisco, the main reasons being that when you start your drive south you are driving on the coastal side of the road rather than looking across the traffic. We recommend spending 3 nights in San Francisco giving you ample time to enjoy all this cosmopolitan city has to offer, and the opportunity to take an excursion to Alcatraz. From San Francisco you begin the magnificent drive south down Pacific Highway 1, through Carmel and Big Sur following the infamous rugged coast line before you arrive at the pretty coastal town of Pismo Beach. Pismo is a great beach location ideally placed for exploring the middle area of the Coastal route, within easy reach are historic missions, Hearst Castle, wildlife sanctuaries, a hundred wineries and antique shops, the route provides a relaxing drive before heading further south to Los Angeles. Los Angeles is a happening city that caters for all, 4 days will be enough to give you a flavour of the city and time to enjoy the theme parks, Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
